Military & First Responder Care

A specialty built from lived experience. For service members, veterans, law enforcement, firefighters, first responders, and the partners and families who serve alongside them.

Why This Specialty Exists

No Translator Needed

I served in the Marine Corps, and I started my clinical career near JBLM supporting active duty service members and their families. I understand the culture, the hierarchy, the dark humor, the silence, and why asking for help can feel like a liability. You will not spend your sessions explaining your world to me, and that removes a barrier that stops many people in these professions from getting help at all.

This is a specialty within a broader practice. The same evidence-based individual and couples work I provide every client applies here, delivered by someone fluent in the world you work in.

Over a 30 year career, an officer may be exposed to more than 900 potentially traumatic events, moving between the roles of social worker and street fighter, sometimes within a single shift.

What This Work Covers

The Weight of the Work

Critical Incident Stress

Some calls end when the paperwork is filed. Others follow you home. We process the incidents that stuck before the symptoms take root.

Moral Injury

Distinct from PTSD, moral injury comes from what you saw, did, or could not stop. It attacks your sense of who you are, and it responds to a different kind of work.

Identity & the Job

When the job becomes who you are, transition, retirement, and injury hit harder than anyone warns you. We work on the self underneath the role.

The Family Behind the Badge

The job strains the people at home too. Couples work in this specialty addresses the distance, the worry, and the wall that builds between shifts.

Roughly 18 million Americans are veterans. An estimated 31 percent live with a behavioral health concern, yet only about 40 percent seek care through the VA. That leaves millions carrying it without support.
